A George II Irish mahogany and parcel gilt bureau cabinet

The swan-neck dentil moulded pediment with applied paterae and leaves centred by a later cartouche, above a pair of mirrored doors with leaf carved slips flanked by reeded corinthian columns with gilt carved capitals, enclosing a central panelled doors further enclosing three pigeonholes and six short drawers; surmounted by a dentil moulded pediment drawer and flanked by columnar drawers, with three folio divisions and three drawers to each side, with nine pigeonholes, two niches and three drawers above and thirteen short drawers below; the lower part with a sloping fall enclosing a replaced baize, central cupboard door with two 'secret drawers', flanked by columnar drawers; above two short and three long graduated drawers with fluted canted angles, on ogee bracket feet, 105cm wide, 60cm deep, 256cm high. With close similarities to an Irish mahogany and parcel gilt bureau cabinet circa 1740-60, sold Christies New York, 17 October 1987, lot 44 and again in 2 February 1991, lot 228, illustrated in The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, page 254, fig 200.
