Description
A George III satinwood and purplewood banded bonheur du jour in the manner of Gillows Inlaid with rosewood and tulipwood bands and applied with gilt brass mounts, in two parts, the undulating shaped three-quarter gallery above an open recess flanked by two oval panelled cupboard doors, each enclosing a drawer, the lower part with hinged rectangular top enclosing a replaced green tooled leather above a frieze drawer, on square tapering gaitered legs joined by a shaped platform under-tier, with ivory knob handles, 65cm wide, 44cm deep, 116cm high. A closely related bonheur du jour of this pattern attributed to Gillows was sold Christies London, 5 July 1990, lot 137 (£11,000 hammer). NB: Requires a CITES license if exported outside the EU The US Government has banned the import of ivory so this cannot be exported to the USA
