Description
A late 19th century French mahogany and gilt bronze mounted writing table after the model by Riesener in the Louis XVI style The rectangular brass bound top with three-quarter gallery above a frieze drawer on turned legs headed by flowerhead festoons with Apollo masks to the sides, joined by a shaped platform under-tier with gallery; on sabots, 87cm wide, 56cm deep, 78cm high. Provenance: Formerly in the Von Bulow Collection, sold Sothebys New York, Clarendon Court, Newport, Rhode Island, 28-29 October 1988, lot 408. Private Collection, London. The above lot is based on the model supplied by Riesener to Marie Antoinette and now in the collection of The Louvre, Paris.
