A pair of George III cream painted and polychrome decorated settees The shaped top-rails above padded backs flanked by pierced fluted columns, the downswept arms on shaped supports, the upholstered seats, on tapering fluted legs with acanthus capitals and scaly carved spool feet, 161cm wide, 56cm deep, 94cm high. (2) The decoration of the settees offered here with the running green leaf and red berry decoration relates to the decoration seen on a group of fashionable furniture presumably commissioned by William Brummell for Donnington Grove between 1783-1794 and sold Bonhams, London, 19th October 2011, lots 149-158 and attributed to a several makers including Gillows, George Brookshaw and Henry Clay. William Brummell was the father of the celebrated Regency dandy Beau Brummell (1778-1840) who spent part of his childhood at Donnington Grove.
