After François Rude (French 1784-1855) The Education of Achilles by Chiron A large French gilt bronze figural group depicting Chiron holding an arrow with a lyre at his feet and instructing Achilles in archery, a serpent lying coiled at the feet of Achilles, on a naturalistically modelled base, 44cm wide, 18.5cm deep, 49cm high. Provenance: The Collection of Sir Jeremy Lever The group was inspired by Jean-Baptistes Regnault's monumental canvas entitled L'Education d'Achille par le centaure Chiron, which was exhibited at the salon of 1784, and was his morceau de réception at the Academy in the same year.
