How to Buy at Auction

Items offered for purchase at auction are catalogued, photographed and researched by our specialists and condition reports are available on request.


At our auctions you can bid either in person during the auction by registering in advance and using a 'paddle number', by booking a telephone bid or by leaving a commission bid 24 hours before the sale, which we will execute for you on your behalf. There is also the ability to register, leave a bid and live bid through our website, The Pedestal Live.                                                                                          


You can also bid live online in the auction through The Saleroom and Invaluable. 


Please note that there is an additional surcharge to pay when buying through these bidding platforms and The Pedestal Live. You are advised to check directly with your preferred bidding platform in advance before bidding.


Payment for all lots purchased including all associated fees, charges and taxes, is due no later than 7 calendar days after the auction.


Payment can be made only by the registered bidder.


Payment instructions can be found the relevant invoice or invoices.


Please note that we do not accept payment by credit card.


A buyer’s premium of 25% on the first £50,000 of the hammer price of each lot, and 20% of any portion of such hammer price which is above £50,000, plus VAT is applicable. 


Lots cannot be collected and removed until the invoice for these lots has been paid.


POST SALE COLLECTIONS AND STORAGE INFORMATION


All auction purchases must be collected within 14 days of the auction from The Dairy, Stonor Park, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 6HF.


We open for collection Monday-Friday between 10.00am and 4.00pm during the week of the auction.


After this date please telephone 0207 281 2790 to schedule an appointment for collection.


After the first 14 calendar days following the sale, ie. assuming an auction date of 28th July 2020, from the 12th August 2020 handling and storage charges would apply.


Storage charges include an administration charge of £10 and are then charged at: £3 per day for pictures and small items £6 per day for furniture, larger pictures and objects.


If items remain uncollected after the free collection period we reserve the right to transfer them to external storage where a transfer charge and additional storage charges will apply.


Loss and Damage:


Full value protection cover for the value of the hammer price with be charged at 0.6% but will not exceed the total value of all other transfer and storage charges.


Value Added Tax will be applied at the current rate on any charges levied.
