A rare mid 18th century black japanned long case clock with trip repeat facility by Charles Harvey, London Heightened with gilt chinoiseries, the rectangular moulded cornice above a glazed arched door flanked by turned pilasters, above a door and ogee moulded plinth base; the 12 inch arched brass dial with subsidiary date dial in the arch flanked by dolphin spandrels over the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, with half quarter marks and floating fleur-de-lys half hour marks, the finely matted centre with subsidiary seconds and shaped signature cartouche, all framed by India mask spandrels, the movement with five knopped and finned pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on a bell, with additional facility to repeat the hours, comprising of a hand wrought iron lever pivotted on a stout iron tapering post set into the seat board, old paper label to rear of dial reads 'Mr Rhodes', 45cm wide, 25cm deep, 225cm high. The trip repeat lever is pivoted so that it is activated from above to allow the repeat cord to be run through a hole in the case, through the ceiling and into the bedroom above.
