Christ followed by His Apostles in shown approaching the tomb of Lazarus, which is set in a ravine that opens onto a view of the city walls of Bethany. Before Him, Lazarus's sisters Martha and Mary kneel in supplication while others rollaway the stone from the mouth of the top and start to unwind the shroud. The Raising of Lazarus took place before witnesses and unlike the Resurrection of Christ is recounted in detail in the Gospels (John xi).
