Figurative sculpture of this period would often show the slight elongation of form which was a characteristic seen across figurative decorative art in the period. The sculpture shows a fluidity and keenly observed detail in the round so views well from multiple angles.
Mid-Century verdigris bronze figure of a girl releasing doves
Description
A stylised mid-century verdigris bronze figure of a girl releasing doves from a box, stood on a naturalistic base
The piece is unsigned but would date to the 1960s and is likely to be Italian. The piece has been cast using the lost wax technique. There are tiny remnants of the plaster casing from the manufacture left in the low points on the figure in isolated areas indicating it may have been artist produced and not by a major foundry. Overall the figure has a lovely patination and colour variance and stands very well. The figure is 41cm high and the base has a diameter of 13.5cm.
