Inspiration: The canapé platter is inspired by growth and movement in flowers, trees, and their components. Capturing the essence of nature through food.
Making process + techniques: This piece is created by splicing a thick branch of holly wood by axe and then sanding smooth. Holes are drilled al the way through for the stems of the canapé platter to sit in. The wood is sanded to a high grade and then finished with mineral oil for protection of the wood.
Silver cups are made to fit into the drilled holes, made from silver tube and sheet. This allows the wood to be protected from inserting and removing the canape stems.
The stems are made by shallowing forming discs of silver, using dies and punches. They are then soldered on the silver stems, which have been tapered and shaped by hammer.
The feet are made by fabricating a cup that ends over the ends of the wood, which has been tenoned for a snug fit. The handles have been forged and formed before soldering onto the cup. The feet are filed and shaped before soldering.
