Silver

The silver department is a recent addition to the Pedestal’s stable as it expands into more diverse areas of the art market. Our specialist brings some 44 years of experience in handling silver at auction and maintains close links with trade and private buyers which enables us to know what is in demand in an ever changing market.
As with many areas of the market, tastes change; silver tea and coffee services, once the staple of every English familiy are considered rather old fashioned in the UK now but attract high demand from China and the Far East. Large decorative centrepieces are currently sought after, particularly from cultures where it is considered appropriate to display your wealth.

Our specialist has a particular interest in Russian and Continental silver together with wide experience of silver collectables, having handled many of the most celebrated collections to have passed through the London and Geneva salerooms over a very long period. Silver collecting can take many forms, some wishing to put together a representative collection of a certain period or reign, whilst others may concentrate on a particular area, for example, Scotland, Ireland, the Channel Islands, York, Newcastle, Chester or the West Country. Others may wish to put together an extensive collection of one single object such as mugs, wine labels or even concentrate on the works of a particular single maker. The vast array of styles gives collectors the ability to collect in much the same way a stamp collector might put together a collection. Our auctions aim to provide quality items attracting collectors and investors but also those who appreciate the value of silver in decorating and enhancing their homes.
